What does your job involve?

Owner and manager for a regional bus transportation service under contract to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

How did you get to this job (education etc.)?

27 years of public transportation experience, including logistics, service planning and statistics.

Do you feel being LGBT has affected your career decisions?

I started in transportation because I was always riding the bus to get away from my small town where being “out” was unthinkable.  Transportation was always my way to connect with my true community and myself.  Also, there are many LGBT people in transportation, most living in the shadows.

Have you had any reactions from colleagues about being LGBT, either good or bad?

I came out professionally only six months ago (I’m 49). The reaction has been near-universally positive.

Did you have any role models growing up (LGBT, STEM, totally unrelated…)?

My father, one of those crazy mathematicians studying strange attractors.

What are your plans for the future?

Expand my transportation firm into a really fun and relevant social justice enterprise that is inclusive of all and where LGBTQIA+ thrives.
